Installation

You can install TimeWriter Professional on your computer or file server by using the installation wizard. Download the latest version from https://www.timewriter.com/download/. The wizard will guide your installation process to ensure that the files go to the desired location.

It is preferable that you do not place the program in your C:\Program files\ folder. If you do, Windows will write the data onto an unpredictable location, which makes it difficult if the software should need to be transferred to another location at some other stage.

If you choose the default settings, all files will go to the C:\TimeWriterV5-Pro\ folder.

You will find the following programs in the installation folder:

Program

Aim

\client\twClientPro

Managing master data.
Setting up system settings.

Hour registration.

Generating reports.

Parts of the application can be switched on or off by setting program module access.

\control\ControlPanelPro

Setting up local database / local server / cloud database.

Create / restore backup.

Conversion of old TimeWriter version.

Update check.

Send files to support service.

Manage tasks.

Program operations are explained in the ControlPanelPro chapter.

\report\twReportPro

This program can be used if you only want to use the reporting function.

\server\twLocalServer

This application can be used to start a local server as an application instead of an windows service.

\lib\twControlService.exe

Using this application the TimeWriter application service can be controlled.

Files needed for listed programs are stored in the following folders:

Folder

Aim

\data\

TimeWriter database. **

\data\xso_pro\default\backup\

Backup files created with ControlPanelPro are stored in this folder. **

\lib\

Various libraries required by the different programs.

** If a cloud database is to be used, the database will be located at an internet location and this folder will not be used to store the new hour bookings

Local server installation

Download a full installation from http://www.timewriter.com/download.

After the installation start \control\ControlPanelPro to setup a database. Go to Manage database, then Set up database.

Choose Local server, and press the Manual button. Enter the name or IP address of the server.

Make sure there is a license using 1 of the following options:

1.You can generate a demo license.

2.You can get a free evaluation license.

3.You can can install an existing license (for existing TimeWriter users for example)

After this, TimeWriter can be installed as a windows service. Therefore use the application: \lib\TwControlService.exe.

You can start \client\twClientPro when the service is running.

It is possible to let all users use the application \client\twClientPro from a network share, but you can also install the client on a local desktop. Read all about it in the next chapter: Local client installation.

Local client installation

When you use your own local server or our cloud server, then you can install a smaller local client which contains only the application parts needed for daily use.

When you use your own local server download the local client installer from http://your_server/localclient (your_server must be the name or ip address of your local server)

When you use our cloud server download the local client installer from http://pro.cloud.timewriter.nl/localclient.

The installation wizard will guide your installation process to ensure that the files go to the desired location.

After the installation is completed the application will start and show you a configure database dialog. Choose the desired option (Local server of Cloud server). Using the the Automatic button you can acquire the settings from other running TimeWriter applications within the same network. If this fails you should complete the settings using the Manual button.
